Monty Panesar has been released by Essex CCC, the club has confirmed, bringing an end to the left -arm spinner's 2-year stay at Chelmsford.
Monty - who was the destroyer-in-chief in England's 2-1 win test series win in India three years ago - has found it tough to break into the international side ever since, having last featured in the fourth Ashes test at Melbourne back in 2013.
The former Sussex Cricketer has been around controversies more than often than not, so much so that one of his off-field incidents brought an end to his time at Sussex. Joining Essex on a loan thereafter, Panesar played a key role in a healthy LV=CC campaign for his side, though that wasn't enough following doubts over his commitment to the team, which has contributed to the decision the Essex management have made.
It has to be said that despite all his personal issues, Panesar still remains a supremely talented spinner and one England would surely need. Whether or not any county does sign him remains to be seen, but in the meantime, Monty's career will remain in a mess. Shame for someone who still is a crowd favourite.
